Roger Banister

Born March 23, 1921. Not known to the world as a dominate runner, but he pushed the envelope of distance running when he became the first person ever to run a mile in under 4:00 minutes. The running world watched as many of its premeire athletes try to be the first to accomplish it. On May 6, 1954 at Iffley Road Track in Oxford, Roger Bannister ran a 3:59.4 to break the, once thought impossible, barrier. Bannister went on o become a distinguised neurologist.

Pre

Argueably the greatest American runner we have ever seen. Steve Prefontaine was loved by the country he ran for. He was born and raised in Coos Bay, Oregon where he became a long distance runner. Pre (his nickname) showed amazing talent, and unrivaled discipline. He broke 19 high school records, and at one point held every American record from the 2000 to the 10000 meter. He died at age 24 in a car accident. He always believed in giving everything you have all the time, and to put it all on the line.
